Australian rock lobster has extended its customs clearance time in China

From Intrafish November 6 news, the end of October this year, the Australian rock lobster exports have begun efforts to restore and China trade. Previously, these lobsters experienced serious delays in customs clearance.

According to information received by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment (DAWE), the inspection rate for the usual import inspections has been increased to 50% of the cargo volume. To this end, relevant departments are further implementing this information and remind exporters to reconsider the recent export of rock lobster.

China announced on the 4th that since November 6, seven types of Australian products have been suspended by China, including coal, barley, copper ore and copper concentrate, sugar, wood, red wine and lobster.

Rock lobster fishery is one of Australia’s most important commercial fisheries. In 2018-2019, about 94% of Australian rock lobster exports of 752 million Australian dollars (approximately US$539.5 million) were exported to China, making China an important export market. Australian rock lobster mainly comes from Western Australia and South Australia.

If the November 6 deadline is implemented, the trade dispute between Australia and China will escalate significantly.
