On December 28th, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment solicited public opinions on the novel food ingredient Haematococcus pluvialis oil, and the deadline was January 28th, 2021.
The main active ingredient of Haematococcus pluvialis oil is astaxanthin. China has approved Haematococcus pluvialis as a new resource food in Announcement No. 17 of 2010. Countries such as the European Union, the United States and Japan have approved Haematococcus pluvialis oil as food ingredient.
According to the "Food Safety Law" and the "Administrative Measures for the Safety Review of Novel Food ingredients", the review agency organized experts to review and pass the safety assessment materials of Haematococcus pluvialis oil in accordance with legal procedures. The production and use of novel food ingredients shall comply with the content of the announcement and the requirements of relevant food safety regulations. In view of the insufficient safety data for the use of Haematococcus pluvialis oil in infant foods, considering the principle of risk prevention, the scope of use does not include infant foods.
The food safety indicator of it is implemented in accordance with the relevant regulations of vegetable oil in China's current national food safety standards.
