★The State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism held a press conference to introduce the epidemic pLive Viruses on the Surface of Objects Can Cause Human Infection★

On the afternoon of January 20, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council held a press conference. At the meeting, Feng Zijian, deputy director of the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said “Since 2020, many people exposed to cold chain items have been infected. We have indeed isolated live viruses from cold chain items, especially some imported frozen seafood products and their outer packaging. This proved that these live viruses on the surface of contaminated objects can cause human infection and have a certain degree of transmission. After that, we have strengthened the testing of imported items, especially cold chain products, and personnel protection and health monitoring have been further strengthened. Later, some other non-frozen items were found to be contaminated by viruses. Especially in the winter, the external environment temperature is very low. Such an environment is similar to the cold chain environment and can also cause the viruses to live longer on the surface of the object and lead to the infection of people who contact with these items.
