On February 5, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea announced that: From 2018 to 2020, the import volume of imported health functional foods in South Korea increased by 21.4% annually, accounting for 33.8% of the domestic health functional food market (in 2019).

import status: 13,531 tons in 2018 → 16,066 tons in 2019 → 19,825 tons in 2020.

The top five countries in terms of import volume are: the United States, China, Germany, Canada, and India → account for 78.3% of total imports (2020).

The analysis results of healthy functional foods (including raw materials) declared through the import food integrated system show that the top products imported in the last 3 years are: complex nutrient products, oligofructose, oils containing EPA and DHA, nutrients，sexual compound products and protein products, five types of products (based on 2020 as the standard) accounted for 59.0% of the total import volume.
