India revises food standards and food additives regulations


On March 9, 2021, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued the F.NO.1-116/Scientific Committee/Notif.27/2010-fssai(E) Circular, which is the "Food Standards and Food Additives Regulations" 2021 amendment No. 1 of the Year. Some of the revised contents include:

1. Update the types of processed juice products;

2. Revise the definition and quality standards of refined wheat flour, biscuits, bread and bakery products, breakfast cereals and other products;

3. Revise the microbiological standards for eggs and egg products in attachment B, and at the same time update product sampling and inspection methods;

4. Revise the list of enzymes and processing aids allowed in food.

The regulations will come into effect on the date of publication in the Government Gazette, and the transition period will end on January 1, 2021.
