Brazil issues two regulations on the quality and hygiene of vegetable oils and fats
On March 15, 2021, the Brazilian National Sanitary Inspection Agency (ANVISA) issued Regulation IN No 87 and Resolution No. RDC481, promulgating two regulations on the quality and hygiene of vegetable oils and fats.
The former mainly stipulates the types of oil crops allowed to be used to produce vegetable oils, the fatty acid content requirements of various vegetable oils, and the quality index requirements (acid value and peroxide content); the latter mainly includes definitions and product classifications (including Single-component vegetable oils, compound vegetable oils, modified vegetable oils, etc.), various product components and quality and hygiene requirements (partially citing IN NO 87 regulations), regulations on other ingredients and additives that are allowed to be added, and labeling of vegetable oils General and special requirements, etc.
The two appeal regulations will be implemented from the date of promulgation, and the transition period for some clauses is 12 months.
