South Korea intends to amend the special law on imported food safety control

 
On April 27, 2021, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drugs (MFDS) issued Circular G/SPS/N/KOR/710/Add.1 to amend the "Special Law on imported Food Safety Control". The main revisions are:

(1) When a foreign food company is registered, it shall submit the certification documents of the manufacturers’ approval, registration and declaration in accordance with the relevant food regulations of the exporting country;

(2) Both importers and foreign food manufacturers can apply for renewal of the registration of foreign food facilities;

(3) For the export of dairy products, processed egg products and sterilized meat products, an export hygiene certificate in the format negotiated between South Korea and the exporting country should be submitted.

The amendment will take effect on January 1, 2022.
