Poland publishes regulations on labeling requirements for products that claim to not involve genetically modified foods

 
On April 23, 2021, the Polish Official Gazette website issued Announcement No. 763 of 2021, formulating the "Regulations on Labeling Requirements for Foods and Other Products Claimed to Not Involve Genetically Modified Products". The main contents of this regulation include:

(1) Scope of application (related products produced in the EU or imported from a third country);

(2) Product classification and definition (Foods that do not involve genetically modified foods refer to plant-derived foods that do not contain genetically modified ingredients, animal-derived foods that are not fed with feeds containing genetically modified ingredients, and processed foods produced using the above-mentioned foods as raw materials, etc.) ;

(3) The content and labeling requirements of non-GMO information in the product label (including illustrations and non-GMO claim specifications);

(4) Laboratory testing and verification that claim to not involve genetically modified food;

(5) Official supervision and management;

(6) Obligations to be undertaken by producers and operators, etc.

According to the regulations, producers or importers can voluntarily choose whether to label products as non-genetically modified foods on the label. once labelled, they must comply with the requirements of the regulations. The regulations will come into effect on the date of publication in the official gazette.
