Brazil sets beverage quality standards
On May 13, 2021, the Official Gazette of the Brazilian Union issued Regulation No. 123, which establishes beverage labeling and quality standards. The main contents include:
1. The scope of stipulated beverages includes: compound beverages, tea, soft drinks, soda water and related solid and liquid beverages;
2. Definition of compound beverages, etc;
3. Beverage labeling and packaging requirements: stipulate the prohibited appellation words, label size, beverage name labelling method, maximum total sugar content in beverages, and prohibited packaging forms;
4. Standards for the minimum content of various compound beverages, etc.
The regulations will come into effect on June 1, 2016.
