Spain approves quality standards for olive oil
On August 31, 2021, the Spanish Ministerial Conference of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food approved the quality standards for olive oil. The publication of this standard updated the Royal Decree of 1983, with the purpose of updating the regulations and improving the quality of olive oil. The decree includes a series of requirements for the traceability, preparation and packaging of the final product, which will make Spanish olive oil the highest quality product in the world, and will be guaranteed to the greatest extent throughout the production process. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will provide operators and control authorities with a computer system for mandatory and advance notification of any activities affecting olive oil, and will create GMP to enhance the image of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) production.
