Argentina intends to amend multiple food regulations

 
On September 9, 2021, the Argentine National Food Commission ConAL issued multiple announcements to amend the Codex Alimentarius. The main revisions include:

(1) Fresh vegetables used for eating must be healthy and clean, free of diseases or injuries of physical, chemical or biological origin, and free of insects, mites or any foreign substances;

(2) Incorporate avocado oil into the Codex Alimentarius Argentine (CAA);

(3) Revise the food enzyme toxicity test to allow enzymes used as a technical aid in the food and beverage industry;

(4) The two new ingredients β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB) and β-alanine (β-ALA) are newly added as dietary supplements, and the unit dose or intake of the two components should not exceed 300 mg;

(5) It is forbidden to use certain flavors in food.

The feedback period for the above amendments is as of October 9.
