South Korea releases list of edible insects recognized as new food ingredients

 
On September 13, 2021, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) conducts certification and evaluation on the characteristics, nutrition, toxicity evaluation, breeding, and processing standardization of insects. 10 kinds of edible insects have been identified as new food ingredients. Including: locusts, edible silkworms (larvae, pupae), grasshoppers, brown mealworms (larvae), white spotted beetles (larvae), long-lived beetles (larvae), double star worms, crickets (adults) and American mealworms (larvae).
