South Korea plans to set new specifications and standards for food for the elderly and patients
On November 30, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued announcement No. 2021-572 to amend some contents of Codex Alimentarius, the main contents are as follows:
1. Modify the refrigerated storage and circulation temperature of milk and tofu to 0 ~ 5℃.
2. Newly set the standards and specifications of nutritional formula food for the elderly.
3. Newly set the food types and production and processing standards of nutritional formula food and recipe food for cancer patients.
4. Restrict and delete the use of individual food raw materials: delete 4 food raw materials such as red Polygonum cuspidatum and garlic mustard in the food raw materials catalogue, and convert 5 food raw materials such as fenugreek and licorice into restricted food raw materials.
5. Revise the limit standard of fumonisins in corn and sorghum and applicable food categories.
6. Modify the specifications of frozen food that can be eaten directly after heating.
7. Modify the limit of pathogenic bacteria in ready to eat and convenient foods: including Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Clostridium perfringens.
8. Revise the catalogue of food raw materials.
9. Newly set the residue limit of ketoprofen in food.
10. Revise and newly set the residue limits of residual substances in livestock products and aquatic products.
11. Modify other provisions such as general test methods.
