UK revises organic food labelling and advertising rules

On 26 January 2022, the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs revised the rules for labelling and advertising of organic food. The main contents include:

(1) The definition of organic food and related terms;

(2) The organic food certification must be obtained for the food whose content is less than 95% organic ingredients;

(3) The content requirements of the organic food label: Certification number, declaration of agricultural origin;

(4) Requirements for declaration of agricultural origin. One of the following statements must be attached to all organic prepackaged food: “UK Agriculture” – agricultural ingredients are produced in the UK; “UKornon-UK Agriculture” –Products are produced using a blend of agricultural ingredients grown in and outside the UK; "Non-UK Agriculture": Agricultural ingredients are produced outside the UK;

(5) New label implementation date is September 30, 2022.
