Russia plans to develop canned food labeling experimental regulations
On January 25, 2022, the official website of the Government of the Russian Federation issued a consultation document to formulate experimental regulations for the labeling of canned food. The main contents include:
(1) From May 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023, within the territory of the Russian Federation, meat, meat by-products, processed vegetables and fruit or canned products should be marked, and a list of canned products is provided: canned fish, caviar, canned crustaceans, mollusks and other aquatic invertebrates, smoked aquatic products, canned vegetables, canned fruits and jams, etc.;
(2) The labeling system will be developed by the Advanced Technology Development Center (CRT) operation. It is planned that by April 15, the CRT will develop a new fish product labeling information system. By 2024, Russia plans to establish a single commodity labelling system to eliminate counterfeit product trafficking. Products including dairy products, tobacco, perfume, etc. must be labeled. The feedback period ends on February 8, 2022.
