On January 26, 2022, the Saudi Arabian Food and Drug Administration issued a consultation document to formulate a mandatory halal certification scheme for domestic and imported food. The main contents include:

(1) The packaging of the following foods, whether domestically produced or imported, must be affixed with the halal certification label: any animal-derived food (including meat, animal fat), whether or not thermally processed, containing animal-derived ingredients

(2) The above provisions are to be officially implemented on July 1, 2022. The feedback period ends on February 26, 2022.
