On February 10, 2022, the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a circular F.No.Stds/SP-05/Orders/FSSAI (E1317) to release the list of categories of indications for inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) and their definitions, mainly including 15 symptoms such as lactose intolerance, amino acid metabolism disorder, tyrosinemia, etc., and stipulates that India only allows the production, sale or import of foods for special medical purposes corresponding to the above symptoms. The notice is effective from April 1, 2022.
