On April 19, 2022, the Australian Federal Register website published notice F2022L00616, namely the Biosafety Act (Conditional Non-Prohibited imports) Amendment (no. 1 of 2022). The main contents related to food include:
(1) Amended bony fish (Osteichthyes, except salmon or flatfish genera) import conditions, namely imported form such as fish fillet (with or without skin), salted/dried/smoked headless fish without internal organs, canned fish ,etc, import product production enterprises shall be registered in competent department of the exporter country, after the official inspection before export. Raw fish should have no damage related to infectious diseases;
(2) Import requirements for fish oil products (except fish oil from the salmonid or Pleuronectes) newly added , i.e. the goods do not contain plant or algae raw materials, have been heat-treated at 85°C for at least 15 minutes or 80°C for at least 20 minutes, are packed in clean containers, and are imported with relevant sanitary or health certificates, etc.
The amendment will take effect 7 days after the release of the communique.
