South Africa published regulatory standards for of prepackaged and statutory measurement control of commodity labelling

On 14 April 2022, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa issued Notice No. 972 in the 46242 Government Gazette, to prepare the Regulatory Standard for Prepackaged and Statutory Measurement Control Of Commodity Labelling (SANS289:2022).  This standard mainly covers the scope of applicable products (any prepackaged or statutorily measured goods,  including imported or domestic pre-packaged food, beverage, cosmetics, perfumes, etc), terms and definitions, prepackaged goods must be marked on the label of the general elements (including product name, net weight (specifications), manufacturer, distributor or importer name and address, etc), label size and each of these elements in the mark points (including the measuring unit, font size, languages, etc  ), special labelling requirements for food products, circumstances or products exempted from compliance with the Regulations, etc. 

The standard shall come into force as of the date of publication of the government gazette.
