7 out of 288 imported agricultural and fishery products failed to pass South Korean customs inspection

On April 26, the South Korean Ministy of Food and Drug Safety(MFDS) announced that in order to strengthen beforehand the safety management of increasing imports of farming, aquatic products in spring to South Korea, from 14 March to 15 April, related customs inspection has been done, according to the results of which 7 items have excessive pesticide residue and result in customs clearance refusal.

   

Object: Main category occupies more than 40% of the annual spring import in the past three years, 

object category: 288 product items out 11 categories from 10 countries*

▲grape (123 items) ▲orange (39items) ▲pumpkin (26items) ▲onion (22items) ▲garlic (14items) ▲small octopus (43items) ▲other agricultural products (21items)

* China, Chile, USA, Australia, Peru, New Zealand, Vietnam, Spain, Thailand, Turkey  

   

Inspection items:

▲ (agricultural products) 510 kinds of pesticide residues

▲ (aquatic products) 3 kinds of heavy metals.  

   

The inspection results: 

6 grapes items(103 tons) and 1onion item(23 tons) were found to have excessive pesticide residues, and the remaining 281 products were found to have qualified pesticide residues, standards and specifications.
