Saudi Arabia revised food import requirements and conditions to add halal certification requirements

 

On 19 April 2022, Saudi Arabia, through the WTO, issued a notification of addendum G/SPS/N/SAU/273/Add.2, which contains the following supplementary contents:  

   

1. Add four definitions: Halal food, Halal slaughter consignment/shipment certificate, Halal product consignment/shipment certificate, Halal certificate;  

   

2. Revise the content of Chapter 4.5:  

   

-- Art. 1.1: Carcasses and cuts exported to Saudi Arabia shall be accompanied by halal slaughter consignment/shipment certificate issued by a Halal certification body recognized by the SFDA Halal Centre.  

   

-- Article 2.1: If the ingredients used in the product are required to have a Halal certificate in accordance with the Saudi/GSO technical regulations to certify compliance with Saudi Halal standards and regulations, such product shall be accompanied by a Halal food delivery certificate approved by the SFDA Halal Center when consigned/shipped.
