South Korea has released draft for comments on the revision of the Food Codex

On May 3, The Republic of Korea (ROK) issued notice No. 2022-199 to amend part of the Food Codex. The main changes are as follows:

 

1. The requirements of food raw materials are clearly stipulated.

 

In order to ensure food hygiene and safety, the conditions of raw materials for food production such as kimchi were clarified. In order to prevent the use of inferior and unhygienic raw materials, the definition of "good quality and freshness" was revised and the definition of "corruption and deterioration" was added.

 

2.  The specifications of capsule products are modified reasonably.

 

3. Adjust the pH range of edible ice products from pH (5.8 ~ 8.5) to pH (4.5 ~ 9.5).

 

4. In order to prevent confusion in the interpretation of the application of standard specifications, some terminology provisions are clarified.

 

The above comments will be solicited until July 4, 2022.
