Although Vietnam's shrimp exports to China in 2021 fell 22% compared to last year, exports to China have recovered strongly since the first quarter of this year, growing 70 % year-on-year to reach $110 million, Vietnam's Agriculture Report said on May 11.
China is one of the world's largest consumer markets for shrimp products, the newspaper said. China imported $1.4 billion of shrimp products in 2018, rising to $3.7 billion in 2021, thanks to growing consumer demand from the huge catering industry. In the first quarter of this year, China imported $739 million of shrimp products,which increased 51% year-on-year. Vietnamese companies are also trying to focus on exporting large and fresh prawn-like products to The Chinese market in response to Chinese consumers' preference for such products. By actively adapting to the demand of the Chinese market, Vietnam's shrimp exports to China have achieved a high growth rate of 70% in the first quarter.
