On May 10, 2022, the Austrian Health and Food Safety Agency(AGES) released the report on the detection of glycidol, 3-chloro-1, 2-propanediol (3-MCPD), 2-chloro-1, 3-propanediol (2-MCPD) and lipids in foods (including foods for infants and young children). The report includes:
(1) Between 2015 and 2020, AGES tested glycidol, 2-MCPd and 3-MCPd in more than 1,000 samples from 13 food groups, including chocolate cream, peanut butter, bread and pastries, baby foods, snack foods, frying lipids, edible oils, and candy.
(2) The contents of glycidol, 3-MCPD and 2-MCPD in "frying lipids" and "cooking oil" were the highest, which exceeded the legal maximum limits; The contents of glycidol, 3-MCPd and 2-MCPd in foods with high fat content and complex process are relatively higher;
(3) The average concentration of glycidol, 3-MCPd and 2-MCPd in infant food was low, and the glycidol and 3-MCPd almost did not exceed the highest level;
(4) The exposure assessment results of glycidol and 3-MCPD in infant food showed no health risk. For 2-MCPD, the risk assessment could not be conducted due to the absence of toxicological indicators, so the exposure assessment was not conducted.
