Russia is seeking quotas and tariffs on grain exports from Eurasian Economic Union countries, Kommersant reported.

Russia made the proposal at a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission on May 20.  The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation believes that this measure is necessary to prevent Russian grain from re-exporting by circumventing restrictions through the Eurasian Economic Union.

Belarus now has a total ban on wheat exports, Kommersant sources said.  Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are preparing decisions to impose tariffs and quotas, while Kazakhstan opposes the tariffs.

Kazakhstan may refuse to implement restrictive measures, which would prompt the agriculture ministry to extend a temporary ban on grain exports to the Eurasian Economic Union, the newspaper noted.
