Vietnam opened new fruit irradiation treatment plants for export to the US

Vietnam: Agricultural Report published on May 23, according to Plant Protection Agency of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, the agency and the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of Department of Agriculture has completed the cooperation of technical assessment of Quanfa Irradiation Co., LTD., Long An Province, Vietnam. The United States has confirmed this company’s good qualification and it may conduct irradiation processing business on fruit to be imports by US.  
   
According to statistics, six kind of Vietnamese fresh fruits have been approved for export to the United States, namely mango, longan, lychee, pitaya, rambutan and star apple.  From January to April in 2022, Vietnam exported nearly $4.9 billion of different kinds of fruit to the United States, accounting for 27.3% of the total fruit export.  In order to further accelerate the pace of Vietnamese agricultural products entering the American market, two irradiation enterprises in Vietnam have been approved to carry out irradiation processing business of fruits exported to the United States, namely Shanshan Irradiation Company in Ho Chi Minh City and Quanfa Irradiation Company in Long An Province, with an estimated annual processing capacity of about 30,000 tons.
