The Regulations of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade on import policies and arrangements, effective from 15 November 2021, state that:  import of plant-derived products into Indonesia requires an import permit from the Ministry of Trade and apply for a commodity (supply and demand) balance (Neraca Komoditas) document in the government system. However there is no requirement for Recommended import of Horticulture Products (RIPH) from the Ministry of Agriculture.  However, the regulations of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture on imported plant products require that imported plant products must be subject to RIPH, and the relevant regulations have not been abolished.

The Indonesian Fresh Fruits and Vegetable importers Association (ASEIBSSINDO) believes that to ensure food safety, it is still necessary to obtain RIPH for plant-based products.

RIPH is a technical advice issued by the Ministry of Agriculture to importers for the import of plant-derived products.  Ayub A. Fina, president of the Indonesian Fresh Fruits and Vegetables importers Association, said RIPH is necessary because it ensures that the produce comes from GMP farms and that the maximum safety limits for pesticides and heavy metals comply with relevant food standards.
