According to the MFDS website on May 20, 2022, the MFDS held a meeting with the Food Industry Association and some food manufacturers to analyze the supply and demand situation of food raw materials, and proposed measures supporting rapid customs clearance, import inspection, flexible application of labeling system and other measures to seek countermeasures against recent international situation changes. The main contents include:
(1) To deal with the unstable supply and demand situation of food raw materials caused by the lasting Russia-Ukraine conflict and the measures taken by some countries banning the domestic food raw materials export through government policy support. Main raw materials needing supply-demand conflict monitoring include oil products (such as palm oil), wheat and corn.
(2) In the customs clearance stage, MFDS plans to carry out timely import inspection on food raw materials, and formulate a series of import inspection systems to ensure the rapid supply of products.
(3) If it is impossible to avoid using alternative raw materials due to unstable supply of raw materials, the existing packaging materials are allowed to be used, and the revised label content will be published on the website.
(4) To strengthen the guidance and inspection of distribution stage, MFDS plans to strengthen the guidance, inspection, planning and law enforcement at this stage, provide consumers with accurate food information, fundamentally eliminate the circulation of low prices and defective products caused by the insecurity of raw material supply and demand.
(5) Inspect and announce the main raw materials and harmful ingredients of products that may use defective raw materials.
