Uzbekistan has extended its tariff exemption for meat and other food products

31 May 2022 - President Of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted a video conference on 31 May to discuss measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of food to the public, the Press Service of the Uzbek President reported. Directly affected by the rising global prices, Uzbek wheat price increases by 50%, vegetable oil by 33% and sugar by 14%. 

The president said that further measures shall take place to support the uninterrupted provision of food supply to people. To this end, after the period of exemption from customs duties on 22 food items expiring on May 1, including meat, fish, dairy products, fruits and vegetable oils, the policy will now be extended until January 1, 2023.  Suspend higher tariffs on food imports;  Restrictions on food imports from public procurement will be temporarily lifted.  In addition, the president called for a comprehensive solution to the issue of feed for poultry farms.
