Japan plans to revise the law on the promotion of agricultural, forestry, fisheries products and food exports

On June 15, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan issued notice no. 550003500 for comments on the proposed revision of some regulations including the Law on Promotion of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries Products and food exports. The feedback period is until July 14, 2022. Major amendments include:

(1) To amend the Enforcement Ordinance on the Promotion of Export of Agricultural, Forestry, Fisheries Products and Food to adjust the registration fee, validity period and accreditation requirements of registered bodies;

(2) The Regulations on the Implementation of Japanese Agricultural and Forestry Standards were revised to require that the raw materials for alcoholic should be agricultural products harvested from fields without using synthetic pesticides, and livestock products should be fed with feed made from agricultural products. The standards should be followed when slaughtering, avoiding intentional injury, and feeding should meet the requirements of animal welfare;

(3) To amend the relevant requirements of the Regulations of Japanese Agricultural Standards Investigation Committee for the appointment of members, interim members and expert advisers of Japanese Agricultural Standards Investigation Committee by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries;

(4) Develop transitional measures about alcohol related name display. The revised law enforcement, in a certain period of time, until the operator according to the modified the Japanese Agriculture, Forestry and Material Quality Marks and Standardization Administration law (JAS) for alcohol organic label certification, in a certain period does not apply to the provisions of article 63 of the JAS method.
