Norway revised food production labeling requirements for organic agricultural and aquaculture products

On 27 June 2022, the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food issued Notice FOR-2022-06-11-1171, amending regulations on organic agricultural products, aquaculture products, food production and labeling.  The main amendments are as follows:  

(1) Scope.  Including: unprocessed agricultural products, food, yeast and salt for food, beeswax, etc.;  
 
(2) imports of organic products from third countries must come from the approved third country and regulatory authorities;  
 
(3) Organic production registration.  Apply for approval to Norwegian Food Safety Authority in advance, organic certificate will be issued after approval;  
 
(4) Organic production registration certificate information, including: the name and address of the enterprise, the date and validity of the certificate, the description of the activities covered, and the information of the enterprise;  
 
(5) Changed notification requirements;  
 
(6) When importing organic products, the importer should inform the Norwegian Food Safety Authority no later than one working day before arrival;  
 
(7) Transitional provisions.  Enterprises registered before the regulations take effect will remain valid after the new regulations take effect.  
 
The announcement took effect on June 25, 2022.
