General Mills New Zealand Ltd is recalling a specific batch of one Häagen-Dazs ice cream due to contamination with ethylene oxide, the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) said in a recall notice. The recalled products are shown below:
The recalled products imported from France and labelled Häagen-Dazs Brand Classic Collection Mini Cups and weighing 4x95mL, are being recalled for all best-by dates from July 4, 2022 to July 21, 2023 (inclusive). The product is sold at Pak'n Save, New World, Four Square and Gilmours stores in the North Island. The recall does not affect any other Häagen-Dazs products.
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority is asking customers to check the date mark on the bottom of individual mini cups or on the side of boxes. Consumers are advised not to eat the affected products and can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
On the same day, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued alert No. 2022.42, recalling specific batches of two Häagen-Dazs ice cream imported from France due to the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide. Product details are as follows:
The recalled products, named Häagen-Dazs Vanilla (Tub) and Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Collection, weigh 460ml and 4x95ml and have a shelf life until 21 May 2023, according to the notification.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is recalling two specific batches of Häagen-Dazs ice cream because of the presence of an unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide. The pesticide is not authorised for use in food products sold in the EU. Although consumption of contaminated products does not pose an acute health risk, health problems may occur if the consumption of ethylene oxide is sustained over a long period of time. Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimized. The point of sale recall notice will be displayed at the store that supplied the relevant batch.
