The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a notice to investigate an ice cream-related listeria outbreak.

The outbreak is known to have resulted in 23 listeria infections in 10 states, including 22 hospitalizations and one death.  Five fell ill during pregnancy and one case resulting in a miscarriage.  Almost all had lived or visited Florida in the month before they became ill.

Interviews with patients and retrospective information point to ice cream made by Big Olaf Creamery of Florida as the likely source of the outbreak.

The CDC advises consumers to discard Big Olaf Creamery ice cream as soon as possible. It also advises businesses not to serve or sell any of the brand's ice cream products and to clean and disinfect them.
