Bulgaria revised requirements for products such as fruit juices intended for human consumption

On 8 August 2022, the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture issued document No. 62 amending the requirements for products such as fruit juices for human consumption, with effect from 20 August 2022. The main contents are as follows:

(1) Requirements for the name, composition and characteristics of fruit juices and nectar. The definition of juice, juice concentrate and juice powder was revised. In the production of fruit juices and pulp, only the following ingredients can be added: vitamins and minerals, food additives authorized under Regulation (EC) No.1333/2008; The amount of sugar or honey does not exceed 20% of the total weight of the final product; The total amount of sulfur dioxide shall not exceed 10mg/L;

(2) Labeling requirements for fruit juices. The trade name of a product that meets the requirements of the regulation and the Provision of Food Information to Consumers, "From concentrate" or "partly from concentrate" must be indicated when the mixture of fruit pulp produced in part or in whole from one or more concentrated products; The minimum content of fruit nectar should be indicated in the label. Additional provisions: aroma, sugar, fructose, fruit puree definition provisions.
