India to revise food safety and standards regulations

On September 2, 2022, the Food Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Circular CG-DL-E-01092022-238516 on the proposed amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction of Sale) Ordinance with a 60-day feedback period to take effect on April 1, 2023. The main amendment is clause (4) in paragraph 2.3.14 of Article 2.3, which should be replaced by the following, namely: "No person shall manufacture, sell, store or display nutritional food for infants unless marked with a BIS certification mark, provided that BIS standards are available".
