Argentina to revise Codex Alimentarius

On September 6, 2022, Argentina's National Food Commission (CONAL) released three drafts to revise the Codex Alimentarius. The main contents include:


(1) EX-2022-10712426-APN-DLEIAER# ANMAT draft, added fermented sweet vinegar seasoning standard, including product definition (grape juice as the main raw material fermented and concentrated sweet vinegar), sensory and quality requirements (total sugar content >150g/ L, total acidity >4% (based on ethanol), Solid content <30g/ L, etc.), raw materials requirements (allow to add caramel color, dosage <2%), health requirements (ochratoxin content <2μg/kg), product labeling provisions, etc.;


(2) Draft No. Ex-2022-62050263-APN-DLEIAER#ANMAT, revising the standards for canned fruits and vegetables. The specific contents include the revision of the sterilization process of candied fruits and vegetables with different pH, the new requirements for accelerated stability test of canned fruits and vegetables, the new provisions of allowing the addition of antioxidant L-ascorbic acid (maximum dosage of 500mg/kg), and the requirements of product sterilization process on the label of the new candied fruits and vegetables.


(3) Draft EX-2020-40816282-APN-DLEIAER# ANMAT to revise the rice flour standard, including the revision of the product definition (milling of grain of qualified quality), the addition of some requirements for quality indicators (such as moisture content <14%, crude fiber <0.5%, Fat <0.5%), new part of the health requirements (cadmium <0.4mg/kg, lead <0.2mg/kg).
