The UK has updated its official controls on imports of high risk food and feed of non-animal origin

On 7 September 2022, the UK issued G/SPS/N/GBR/21 Notification, Official control of high risk food and feed of non-animal origin (amendment) (England) regulations 2022, official control of high risk food and feed of non-animal origin (amendment) (Scotland) regulations 2022, the official control of regulations (amendment)(wales) regulations 2022.


The main elements include: the retained Regulation 2019/1793 provides for a temporary addition to the rules applicable to the official control measures of certain food and feed products of non-animal origin entering the UK from the countries listed in the Regulation. This is due to the risk of microbial contamination with aflatoxins, pesticide residues, dyes, preservatives, PCP and dioxins. The changes listed below have been risk assessed by the FSA and FSS and are based on science and evidence. This Regulation amends Annexes 1, 2 and 2 to the retained Regulation No. 2019/1793 with the following changes:


(1) Deleted the pesticide residues of Chinese wolfberries listed in Annex 1.

(2) Increased frequency of documentation and physical inspection of okra from India from 10% to 20% for pesticide residues.
