Federal Register, November 28, 2022 - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a consultation document to revise the definition of nutrition claims as "healthy." The main contents include:

(1) Updating the "healthy" nutrient content claim. "Food group equivalent" refers to the minimum amount of a food group that must be contained in a food for a nutrition facts claim to be "healthy";

(2) Every food manufacturer (except raw fruits, raw vegetables, water and certain kinds of food, the standard information required on the food label, such as the ingredient list, provides sufficient information to verify that the food meets the food group equivalence requirements) must maintain a written record.

The consultation document has a 90-day feedback period.
