Chilean first batch of live cattle exported to China in 2023 completes quarantine shipment

Recently, with the completion of the quarantine and certification of 3,920 live heifers shipped to China by the Chilean Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Service (SAG), Chile's 2023 live cattle export season officially kicked off. It is estimated that the total cost of this shipment is about US$7 million, including the cost of purchasing animals, sea transportation, use of port facilities, pre-shipment quarantine, and purchase of feed.

Chile's PortalPortuario website reported that Cristian Andrade, regional director of the SAG Lake Region (R. de Los Lagos), said: “These heifers are mainly from Osorno, Ranquihue (Llanquihue) and Chiloé (Chiloé), accounting for 23% of the total."


Federico Di Santi (Federico Di Santi), executive director of DSR Andina subsidiary of DSR company in Uruguay, who is in charge of export business, said: "The live cattle exported this time belong to females of Angus and Hereford breeds. The cattle are of first-class quality and have first-class hygienic standards."

It is understood that this batch of 3,920 live cows will travel for one month by Girolando Express to Dafeng Port in China, and then transported to the final destination of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. In addition, since 2014, Chile has exported over 100,000 live cattle to China.
