U.S. released food sampling plan for cell-cultured meat and poultry

On June 23, 2023, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service issued Notice No. 27-23 to formulate a sampling plan for cell-cultured meat and poultry food, which will be implemented on the date of issuance and valid until July 1, 2024. Main contents:


1. The Food Safety and Inspection Service will collect food contact surface and environmental swab samples to verify whether the food safety control plan established by the enterprise is effective; raw material samples will be tested for total bacterial counts, salmonella, chemical residues, morphology and pathology (microscopic anatomy and histology) Chemical inspection) test; the swab samples of the enterprise's environment and food contact surfaces will be tested for the total number of colonies and salmonella; samples will be collected every other batch, at least 10 samples, with a weight of at least 60 grams;


2. The enterprise shall meet with the management of the enterprise before sampling and inform the enterprise of the sampling plan; the enterprise must carry out inspection and control of the product; when the enterprise fails to inspect the product, the inspector will take regulatory control actions and fill in the non-compliance record to prevent adulterated products from entering circulation;


3. Sample collection, processing, packaging, and transportation requirements;


4. Requirements for abnormal handling of test results. Reassess its HACcP plan when non-compliant chemical residues are found, and re-verify that the establishment has taken corrective actions.
