The Plant Protection Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam has just issued a document to the provincial and municipal departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, notifying the inspection of fresh coconut growing areas and packaging factories intending to export to the Chinese market.

The Plant Protection Bureau has just received a notice from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) recommending that fresh coconut growing areas and packaging sites intended for export to the Chinese market be inspected to improve the assessment of the pest risk of coconuts as a basis for signing the protocol.

The inspection time is mid-August 2023, and the inspection form is a combination of online inspection and on-site inspection.

China's General Administration of Customs will inspect the system of preventing harmful organisms in Vietnam's coconut growing areas and packaging sites, as well as coconut harvesting, transportation and packaging processes.

The Plant Protection Agency requires the provincial and municipal Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development to arrange human resources in the inspection process and to coordinate with the Plant Protection Agency.

The Plant Protection Bureau dispatched technical cadres to guide coconut growing areas and packaging sites to prepare relevant technical data and archives as required by the General Administration of Customs of China.

All relevant information and documents must be translated into English or Chinese and submitted to the Plant Protection Bureau for integration and submission to the General Administration of Customs of China by August 5, 2023.

After the inspection, the Chinese side will conduct a risk assessment and put forward appropriate import requirements to develop a protocol on coconut import in Vietnam.
