On 14 August 2023, the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) issued Circular 34746, the new version of the Aquatic Product Processing Practice, effective from the date of publication. Major revisions include:
1. Revise terms and definitions of serious noncompliance and high-risk areas;
2. Supplementary requirements for fishing vessels capable of processing aquatic products, such as having refrigeration or freezing areas, being able to carry out disinfection, setting up separate sorting areas, etc.
3. Revision of calibration regulations for monitoring and measuring equipment;
4. Supplementary provisions for the sanitary requirements of aquatic product processing water, such as no coliform, the injection should not exceed 5NTU, and the processing enterprises for processing water monitoring plan requirements;
5. Supplementary requirements that aquatic product processing enterprises (including fishing vessels) should develop and implement risk management plans to protect products from contamination with maintenance substances (such as oil, lubricating oil). This regulation is also applicable to the processing management of export aquatic products.
