After a month or so of fluctuations, the current price of durian in Vietnam is basically stable, with little difference between regions. Among them, the price of Vietnamese gold pillow durian is stable at a high level, and the price of Ri6 dry Yao durian has also recovered a lot. But as the central plateau enters the peak picking season, prices are expected to drop.

On August 15, the price of Ri6 dried Yao durian in the southwest, southeast and central plateaus of Vietnam with good quality was basically 55,000-60,000 Dong/kg (16.7-18.2 yuan/kg), and the price of average quality was 45,000-52,000 Dong/kg (13.7-15.8 yuan/kg). The price of golden pillow durian with good quality is 87,000-90,000 Dong/kg (26.4-27.4 yuan/kg), and the price of average quality is 78,000-85,000 Dong/kg (23.7-25.8 yuan/kg). The price of Musang King durian in the central plateau is 130,000-150,000 Dong/kg, about 39.5-45.6 yuan/kg.

The durian harvest season has just entered the central plateau of Vietnam, and the price of durian has fluctuated due to the chaotic buying and selling market and the phenomenon of farmers breaking contracts. Pham Van Luong, chairman of Dong Thai Son import and Export Company based in Thak province, said he expected durian prices in the central plateau region to fall further.

With a large number of durians maturing in the Central Plateau, it is a normal market trend for prices to fall as more durians enter the market. Luong said that durian consumption in the Chinese market is also slowing down, not because the Chinese market is intentionally lowering prices, but because the extremely hot weather has caused people to consume less durian in favor of juicy fruits.

Companies that have signed orders with Chinese traders are still exporting durians normally, but not in large quantities. Companies that have not signed orders are constantly making inquiries and hoping to sign orders with Chinese traders, but the price of new orders is not expected to reach the previous price level.

Luong revealed that in order to coordinate the interests of farmers and exporters, it is reasonable to keep the orchard purchase price of durian at 50,000-60,000 Dong/kg (15.2-18.2 yuan/kg), and enterprises that have signed high-priced contracts may buy at a higher price. At present, the central plateau has just entered the peak season, and the average price of durian is still 70,000-80,000 Dong/kg.
