Chile's media reported on August 11 that in the first half of 2023, the outbreak of bird flu in Chile's largest meat company Agrosuper factory led to the culling of nearly 750,000 poultry and caused economic losses of $12 million. Chile suspended poultry exports as a result, causing economic losses of between $70 million and $75 million. Agrosuper financial manager Grigolo said that the bird flu outbreak in Chile has ended, the company's chicken and Turkey exports have gradually recovered by the end of the first half of the year, and the import and export business of poultry in major global markets except China is now operating normally. Gersch will strengthen exchanges and dialogue with relevant Chinese departments and strive to restart Chile's poultry exports to China as soon as possible. It is reported that China is the second largest destination of Chilean poultry products exports, after the United States, of which chicken exports accounted for 19%, Turkey exports accounted for 17%.
