Kenya plans to develop five food standards

On September 18, 2023, the Kenya Bureau of Standards issued a consultation document to develop standards for shelled nuts, cashew flour, peanut flour, coconut oil and palm oil. Call for feedback period November 17, 2023. Main contents:

 

(1) Scope and definition;

 

(2) General requirements. Color, foreign body, odor, dry nut moisture content less than 10%, cashew powder less than 8% and other indicators; Food additives shall not be used in crude palm oil, and pigments shall not be used in semi-refined palm oil. The specific provisions of other items are shown in the following table;

 

(3) Label. Product name; The name and address of the manufacturer, packer, distributor, importer or exporter; Batch number, net weight, country of origin, etc.; Coconut oil labeled refined or unrefined, nutrition and health claims; Palm oil products should claim high oleic acid content.
