On October 29, 2023, according to the US Food Safety News Network, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that a baby fruit puree contained excessive lead, affecting at least four children.
It is understood that the name of the product is WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches. According to the FDA's public warning, parents and caregivers of toddlers and children who may have consumed this product should contact their child's health care provider for a blood test.
As part of the investigation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services analyzed multiple batches of the product and detected high levels of lead.
WanaBana has agreed to a voluntary recall of all batch numbers and expiration dates of the product. The product has been sold nationwide and through Sam's Club, Amazon and Dollar Tree retailers.
The FDA advises parents and caregivers not to buy or feed this product to children.
