According to the news released by the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, quoting the director of the bureau Sergei Dankwert, representatives of the General Administration of Customs of China will evaluate Russian pork companies as potential pork suppliers by the end of the year.

At the end of September this year, China lifted restrictions on Russian pork imports imposed in 2008 due to the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in Russia. China allows Russian pork that meets the requirements of regional management of African swine fever to be exported to China, that is, pork is allowed to be supplied from regions without African swine fever.

According to the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, the draft protocol on inspection, quarantine and veterinary hygiene requirements for Russian pork exports to China was received from Chinese colleagues in October, and an agreement was reached on "representatives of the General Administration of Customs of China to visit Russia before the end of 2023 to evaluate pork enterprises - potential pork suppliers to Russia." The possibility of signing a protocol regulating the conditions of supply will also be discussed before the end of the year.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said in early November that Russian pork supplies to the Chinese market could start by the middle of next year.
