On March 6, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 28 of 2024, announcing that from now on, Austrian dairy products that meet the relevant requirements will be allowed to import.
Products permitted to be imported shall mean food originating in Austria, processed from cow's milk, goat's milk and sheep's milk as the main raw material and properly heat-treated. Including pasteurized milk, sterilized milk, mixed milk, fermented milk, cheese and recycled cheese, thin cream, cream, anhydrous cream, condensed milk, milk powder, whey powder, whey protein powder, bovine colostrum powder, casein, milk mineral salts, milk based infant formula and its premix (or base powder).
The dairy production enterprises exported to China shall be approved or registered by the Austrian authorities, under the supervision of the Austrian authorities and in accordance with the requirements of China and Austria on animal health and public health.
According to the “Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China” and the “Administration Measures on the Registration of Overseas Manufacturers of imported Food”, the production enterprises that export dairy products to China shall be registered in China, and the products produced by the enterprises that do not obtain the registration shall not be exported to China.
At the same time, the announcement also details the relevant requirements for imports, including quarantine approval requirements, certificate requirements, packaging and identification requirements.
