Australia updated import conditions for bee products

On 7 March 2024, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) changed the import conditions for bee products. The main contents include:

 

(1) An import licence from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is not required;

 

(2) These import conditions cover bee products entering or being offloaded into Western Australia;

 

(3) In order to demonstrate compliance with this requirement, the following must be shown on the health certificate: a). The product is from an apiary in a country or region free of European bedbugs, or b). The product has been processed to ensure destruction of M. plutonius by either: 2.1 Irradiation of at least 15kGy 2.2. Heat treatment at a minimum core temperature of 140°F (60°C) for at least 8 hours, or c. Heat treatment at a minimum core temperature of 140°F (60°C) for at least 8 hours, or d. Heat treatment at a minimum core temperature of 140°F (60°C) for at least 3 hours. hours, or c). Found to be free of Mycobacterium plutonius by a test method described in the relevant section of the OIE Terrestrial Manual;

 

(4) To demonstrate compliance with this requirement, you must provide the following in the manufacturer's declaration: a. A statement that the goods are pure and free of excess material, or b. That the goods are a component of other goods and were pure and free of extraneous substances before being added to other goods.

 

The requirement comes into force on 7 March 2024.
