On April 17, 2024, the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) released the revised Registered Food importers and Requirements for the Sale of imported Food, which will come into effect on August 1, 2024 for a transition period of 18 months, ending on January 31, 2026. The revised content is as follows:

(1) The revision of frozen berries from the category of imported food of "Increased Regulatory Concern (IRI)" to the category of imported food of "high regulatory concern (HRI)", where the main potential risks are norovirus and hepatitis A virus;

(2) stipulate that only ready-to-eat frozen berries and specific frozen berries and other 2 types of products need to accept food safety inspection during import clearance, and frozen berry products for further processing do not need to accept food safety inspection when imported;

(3) The registered importer of frozen berries can prove the safety of the product by providing a certified third-party inspection certificate during customs clearance;

(4) Additional alternative customs clearance requirements for canned beef and meat products from the EU and the UK.
